Crime & Justice

Research, evaluation and statistical analysis in Criminal Justice is a key business area for ECOTEC having worked with the Youth Justice Board, the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office, the Department for Communities and Local Government and regional and local clients on a range of projects to investigate offending behaviour, what works in the delivery of criminal justice services and the effectiveness of local interventions at a community level.

Theme Portfolio: The Impact of Sport and Culture in Crime Reduction

ECOTEC have been exploring the crime reduction impact of cultural and sporting diversionary tactics on behalf of Sunderland City Council and IDeA.

Building on principles of realistic evaluation the research aims to develop a number of mechanisms, via a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) through which sport and culture can impact on crime reduction. The mechanisms developed will then be tested through evaluative case-studies in relevant local authorities.

A final strand of activity will explore the costs and benefits of such schemes. Together each strand will contribute to the development of a 'model of potential impact ' for use in future work in this area and also help to build an evidence-base around the topic.
