Research, evaluation and statistical analysis in Criminal Justice is a key business area for ECOTEC having worked with the Youth Justice Board, the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office, the Department for Communities and Local Government and regional and local clients on a range of projects to investigate offending behaviour, what works in the delivery of criminal justice services and the effectiveness of local interventions at a community level.

Service Portfolio: Evaluation of three new media education, information and advice pilot projects

This exciting study evaluated the use of three pilots using various types of television and new media to deliver Education, Information and Advice to those involved in different aspects of the legal system, whether as witnesses or victims of crime, or when faced with relationship problems or other disputes. One of the pilot projects, producing a DVD for witnesses, based in the Nottingham area, worked with stakeholders including: Victim Support, Witness Care Units, Office of Criminal Justice Reform (OCJR), and Her Majesty's Court Service (HMCR).

Our methodology for the evaluation included large scale telephone interviews, and panel viewings of the media with victims and vulnerable witnesses.

The evaluation informed the rollout of other new media initiatives within the education and information services of the Department.
