Crime & Justice
Research, evaluation and statistical analysis in Criminal Justice is a key business area for ECOTEC having worked with the Youth Justice Board, the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office, the Department for Communities and Local Government and regional and local clients on a range of projects to investigate offending behaviour, what works in the delivery of criminal justice services and the effectiveness of local interventions at a community level.
Service Portfolio: Community Justice; Preventing Anti Social Behaviour and Low Level offending
ECOTEC have been funded through the ECORYS Research Programme to undertake a study examining the concept of 'community justice' - an approach to involve local communities in the court process, to focus on breaking the cycle of offending and to make the judge more accountable to the community.
There are currently several high profile community justice pilots operating in the USA, UK and Australia, which have received significant levels of media interest but limited comparative work has been done across all of these initiatives to assess whether the concept works. This project, will, therefore, look at the development, implementation and transferability of community justice projects.
