Developing Solutions

Once the issues have been clearly defined, we help our clients to identify all the options available to them.

Our approach is to clarify the facts and make informed predictions about the effects of each option. Some of the tools and techniques that we use, such as the REMI-ECOTEC Model, have been developed in-house, and so are unique to ECOTEC. We strive to present our findings in a clear and accessible way so that client time is dedicated to considering the best approach, rather than trying to understand the consultants’ report.

When the preferred option has been identified, we can support our clients to develop their solution. This support ensures that they are able to progress in full confidence of achieving their objectives.

The benefit of our knowledge and experience means that we can add value to the development process in many ways. This can range from providing advice on the policy context through to the more practical skills of developing strategies and plans.

Our solutions services encompass the following:

  • feasibility studies
  • funding bids
  • impact studies
  • cost benefit analysis
  • REMI-ECOTEC Model
  • policy advice and support
  • action and business planning
  • strategy development
  • facilitation

Service Portfolio: South West Business Resource Efficiency Study

Study

ECOTEC provided technical assistance to support the set-up phase of the newly formed South West Science and Industry Council of leading regional industrialists and institutions of learning. Chaired by the then President of Rolls Royce Defence Division, Colin Green OBE, we prepared technical papers for Board sessions, identifying the implications and opportunities for the region from the national technology strategy, and we provided guidance and briefings to inform thinking about current science and technology matters such as opportunities from EU FP7. In addition, we prepared a questionnaire for city based partner organisations to conceptualise, scope and explore the potential of Bristol's recent designation as a Science City.

Our work included the planning and preparation of a highly successful conference to launch the SWSIC attended by leading technology firms, the South West science community, the Director-General of the Research Council, Sir Keith O'Nions and facilitated by TV presenter Phillipa Forrester.
