Region Portfolio: Mapping the renewable energy sub-sectors in the UK
EU Skills Ltd commissioned ECOTEC to carry out an occupational and functional mapping of the renewable energy sub-sectors in the UK. This included the Biomass, Wind (on-offshore and offshore), Geothermal, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Solar and Photovoltaic activities. As a unique and pioneering piece of work, it provided invaluable insights, not least, into the extent of the skills in the critical sectors at the forefront of the challenge of climate change. The study involved consultations and interviews with a range of stakeholders, trade bodies and employers.
The results of our report were publicised at a regional event attended by participants to both endorse the findings and its implications as well as input into the future work of the SSC. This research was also a key part of placing the sectors within the National Qualifications Framework.
